PSV endured a disastrous afternoon in Velsen-Zuid. The champions-elect picked up a foolish red card just before halftime and subsequently paid the price, conceding the opening goal to Telstar. Bosz didn't spare his team after the debacle. "It pained my eyes to watch. Just seeing how we gave away those goals... That tells me we weren't sharp enough, and it absolutely infuriates me," said the furious coach. "They performed better with their limited resources than we did."
Bosz Takes Responsibility
According to Bosz, he is to blame for not adequately preparing his team for the match against Telstar. "Instant dismissal," he said cynically. "No, but I am responsible. It was poor. We warned them, but apparently, we didn't get through to the lads. We even showed them footage of their free-kick, yet we still conceded from it. That shows a lack of sharpness. I need to explain it more clearly and better, and the players need to listen."
While the championship is all but secured for PSV, Bosz's team is far from peak form. Where they were unassailable in the first half of the season, significant cracks are now showing. The Eindhoven side has lost three of their last four matches. "Against Heerenveen (both cup and Eredivisie) and Bayern, you saw the real PSV. There, we showed we could reach that level, but now there's no sign of it."
Broader Problem
Bosz believes it's a broader issue. "A while ago, training sessions were truly sloppy, but thankfully, they've improved recently. Perhaps that needs to get better first, and then the matches will follow. This is substandard and unworthy of PSV," Bosz continued, refusing to accept his team's decline. "I could say: don't worry, we'll be champions. But that's not how I want to become champions. I want to win with plenty of chances and by imposing our will on opponents."
Earliest Title at Risk
PSV has been chasing the earliest championship ever for months, but they've now put that in considerable jeopardy themselves. Bosz isn't overly concerned. "It would have been nice if we'd managed it, but we've let it slip twice. We need to look at ourselves. I don't care much if the shine is off it, because it's quite remarkable that we were nineteen points ahead in the first place. I just miss the absolute will to win every single game. Just look at where we dropped points," Bosz remarked, referring to NAC Breda, FC Volendam, and Telstar (twice).
Distraction for PSV Players
For many PSV players, a period of distraction now begins, as a large number of them will join their national teams. "Perhaps it's good that we don't see each other for a while. I see no hunger or aggression. It just wasn't good enough, and it's been like that often. This shouldn't happen to us against Telstar. I don't want to be champions like this," Bosz concluded.
