Vonn has already undergone two surgeries for her leg fracture, with the third procedure taking place on Wednesday. "Successfully has a completely different meaning today than it did a few days ago," she wrote alongside a photo from the hospital in Treviso.

Massive Fixation Pins

Vonn shared multiple photos on Instagram, one of which stands out, showing her left leg held together by fixation pins. "I'm making progress, and despite it being slow, I know it will be alright. Grateful for all the incredible medical staff, friends, family who have been by my side, and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world."

Among those who offered their support were tennis legend Rafael Nadal, skating icon Marianne Timmer, former hockey player Fatima Moreira de Melo, and tennis star Naomi Osaka. From her hospital bed, Vonn congratulated the American athletes whose performances, she said, provided her with inspiration and "something to cheer for."

Complex Tibia Fracture

It's been an emotional rollercoaster for Vonn. A week before the Games, she tore her ACL in a World Cup fall, also sustaining bruises and meniscus damage. Despite this, the American sports legend, armed with a brace and immense self-belief, decided to pursue her Olympic dream. Just 13 seconds into her run, disaster struck, and Vonn suffered a complex tibia fracture.

While she faced considerable criticism, Dutch skating icon Marianne Timmer defended Vonn. "She followed her heart; she had it in her mind. It had to happen," Timmer stated in the podcast 'Sportnieuws.nl Dreams of Gold'. "I would have gone too. We'll see about the consequences later," she added, referring to the potential risks. "Hopefully, she won't suffer any lasting damage."
