Bernardo Silva, Manchester City's midfield maestro, was instrumental in the Citizens' 2-1 comeback victory over Liverpool this Sunday, in a Premier League matchday 25 fixture. After the game, the Portuguese international, who scored the opening goal and initiated the play that led to Matheus Nunes' penalty, converted by Haaland, spoke about the significance of the three points in the title race.
"Given the gap we have to Arsenal, and this is by far the toughest ground in the Premier League, we still needed to push for another goal. When I scored, I was pleased, but we needed one more, and Erling [Haaland] managed to get it," Bernardo Silva told Sky Sports after the match.
"I'm very happy, but these points count the same as any other game. It's been a frustrating start to the year because we haven't been doing our job well. We could be closer to Arsenal. You can imagine how tough it is to win here, but I'm very happy," the creative midfielder continued. For the Portuguese international, not winning would have almost been synonymous with kissing the championship goodbye: "I feel like the whole team knew before the game that if we lost here, the title race was over. We felt we needed to win. The hope is there, and we will fight until the end. We need to do our job, which we haven't been doing lately," he concluded.
Manchester City's victory allowed Pep Guardiola's side to remain six points behind league leaders Arsenal, with 13 rounds left in the Premier League season.
