Just two days remain until the official opening of the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, but the mixed doubles curling tournament kicked off today.

To the dismay of the hosts, however, the competition got off to a rocky start. Shortly after the first matches began, the lights in the Cortina d'Ampezzo arena went out. This led to a temporary halt in play while technicians worked to resolve the issue.

After a delay of several minutes, the lights came back on, only to go out again almost immediately for a second time, extending the interruption. However, this second outage lasted only a few more minutes before the lighting was restored and the matches resumed.
