With just over a month until the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season, only one team, Audi, has yet to name a single reserve driver.
All other teams have at least one reserve, with McLaren and Haas even boasting two. For the reigning champions, McLaren, their reserves are Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli and IndyCar star Pato O'Ward. Meanwhile, Haas will rely on Rio Hirakawa and the newly signed Jack Doohan.
Yuki Tsunoda stands out as the only driver who will serve as a reserve for two teams, a common arrangement for drivers within the Red Bull program. The Japanese driver will be on standby for both Red Bull and Racing Bulls should a replacement be needed.
It's also noteworthy that many reserve drivers have active racing programs in other championships, which will prevent them from fulfilling their F1 duties at all races. Antonio Giovinazzi is one such example; he will be a reserve for Ferrari while also competing as a full-time driver for the Scuderia in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The 2026 Formula 1 and WEC calendars feature six conflicting dates. Giovinazzi will be unavailable to Ferrari's F1 team during the race weekends in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Barcelona, Italy, Azerbaijan, and São Paulo.
