Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi has expressed encouragement with what he's seen from his team during the first two days of MotoGP pre-season testing at the Sepang circuit, but he also issued a word of caution to the Noale-based manufacturer.
Bezzecchi finished today's second day of testing near Kuala Lumpur in sixth position, stating afterwards that he was pleased with the work accomplished so far. However, he warned Aprilia not to jump to conclusions, as the excellent track conditions at Sepang could easily mislead engineers into believing they've made significant progress.
"We're working well. Of course, we still have many things to try and more work to do. But, for now, I'm not complaining. I'm enjoying it. The track is very pleasant. We've had a lot of problems here, both during testing and race weekends. Buriram was a bit better, so let's see. Now the track conditions are very, very good. And when the track is so good, it's hard to find a good baseline. We need to be careful and focused to understand what makes a difference on the bike and what comes from the track conditions. But despite that, these are two tracks where it's important for us to test parts on the bike. We still have a lot to improve, a lot to try. So it's hard to pinpoint one thing we need to improve. But overall, we're working on an entirely new bike that doesn't look bad at all. The engineers need more data, and I need more laps to adapt to all these changes. That's the main goal for these days," Bezzecchi explained to reporters in Malaysia.
