A heated public spat has erupted on social media between former Manchester United legend Paul Scholes and the club's center-back, Lisandro Martinez, sparked by a sharp comment from Scholes.
The catalyst for the exchange came before the Manchester derby, where United secured a 2-0 victory over City in Carrick's debut as interim manager. In a comment made alongside Nicky Butt, Scholes made a disparaging remark about the Argentine defender's height.
“Haaland will pick up the 5'9" South American and run with him,” Scholes quipped mockingly, questioning Martinez's ability to contend with the Norwegian striker.
The Red Devils' defender's response was immediate and direct, challenging Scholes to speak to him face-to-face. “Honestly, he can say whatever he wants. I've already told him, if he wants to tell me something, he can come wherever he wants. To my house, anywhere. I don't care,” Martinez stated, clearly annoyed.
Scholes, however, sought to have the last word, responding sarcastically to the Argentine's invitation. “Someone had a good game, I'm very happy for you... Tea, no sugar please,” he wrote, continuing the public confrontation.
