There's no time to waste for Michael Carrick and Manchester United, with a massive derby clash against rivals Manchester City looming this Saturday. The new United boss, who took over from Ruben Amorim after two interim games with Darren Fletcher at the helm, welcomed back two significant reinforcements to the squad.
Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo had departed for the Africa Cup of Nations when Ruben Amorim was still in charge, and they returned this Wednesday to a completely different landscape. Both have now rejoined the team after their international commitments – Diallo with Ivory Coast and Mbeumo with Cameroon, who were knocked out in the quarter-finals – and participated in Carrick's first training session.
The duo had become almost indispensable starters under Amorim, and Carrick can now prepare for the clash against the Citizens with two key players back in the fold. Mbeumo, in particular, is the team's top scorer with seven goals.
Images from Manchester United's training session also showed a smiling Bruno Fernandes, who has now recovered from the longest injury layoff of his career and is expected to captain the team at Old Trafford this Saturday.
