Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the departure of one of its sporting directors, Fabio Paratici. The Italian executive will leave the club after the January transfer window closes to return to his home country and take on a leadership role at Fiorentina. This move comes just three and a half months after Paratici rejoined Tottenham. He had initially left the North London club in April 2023, following the highest sports court in Italy upholding his two-and-a-half-year ban from football. This sanction was imposed due to his involvement in financial irregularities during his tenure at Juventus. However, Paratici returned to Spurs last October, working alongside fellow sporting director Johan Lange.
Fiorentina, for their part, confirmed that Paratici will officially begin his role as sporting director at the Florence-based club on February 4th.
Tottenham's Chief Executive Officer, Vinay Venkatesham, explained that the Italian executive expressed a desire to return to his native country.
"We have agreed that Fabio will return to Italy after the January transfer window, in line with his wish to be closer to home. We thank Fabio for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best for the future. Our management structure is designed to be resilient to personnel changes, and we will continue as usual," Venkatesham stated.
Paratici himself added: "I want to thank Vinay and the Tottenham Hotspur board for accommodating my desire to return to Italy and join Fiorentina. I enjoyed my time here, but this opportunity, coupled with the need to be based in my home country, led me to this decision. Tottenham is a club very close to my heart. It has great people who are just as passionate about the project as I am and want to bring lasting success. I have no doubt they will achieve it, and I will be watching closely from Italy."
