Radu Drăgușin, 23, is reportedly on the verge of leaving Tottenham. Currently, only two clubs are actively pursuing the central defender: AS Roma and Red Bull Leipzig. Both teams are gathering extensive, detailed information about the Romanian international.
Radu Drăgușin is highly likely to depart Tottenham. "A transfer is very close to being finalized," sources close to the national team indicate. These individuals have recently been contacted by representatives from AS Roma and Red Bull Leipzig. The reason?
Major Interest in Drăgușin from Italy and Germany
"They're asking for detailed information about Radu. What kind of person he is off the pitch, his public image in Romania, his relationships with national squad teammates, and how he's perceived by those he interacts with in the national team setup," reveal sources from within the national team.
"These were normal inquiries, similar to what we've encountered with other significant transfers involving Romanian players. Whether it was Dennis Man or Valentin Mihăilă, there have always been what we might call institutional discussions between various parties," add the sources consulted by GSP.ro.
Tottenham acquired Radu Drăgușin in January 2024, paying Genoa 25 million euros for the Romanian center-back. He has also played for Juventus, Sampdoria, and Salernitana.
"They requested a detailed report on Radu Drăgușin"
Even Florin Manea, the player's agent, confirms that negotiations are at an advanced stage. "A permanent transfer could happen this winter. I'm in London, and we are in negotiations. AS Roma has expressed their interest to Tottenham," the agent stated.
The second club to enter the race for Radu's transfer is Red Bull Leipzig.
"A few days ago, the phone rang with a request for a report on him. They asked for a detailed report. That's how a professional club operates; they gather information from multiple sources about who they're looking to sign. It's not the first time we've been called and questioned about a player," the FRF sources continued.
His performances at Genoa were important, but what he achieved with the national team was even more significant. It shows that Romania can produce a player of this caliber! It means a lot, and now it's up to him to establish himself. It's difficult to reach Tottenham, but it's even harder to stay there. Mircea Lucescu, Romania National Team Coach (January 2024)
Iordănescu Jr. Also Contacted!
According to GSP.RO's information, even former national team coach Edward Iordănescu was contacted for references regarding Radu Drăgușin, both as a player and as a person.
"As a prominent figure with achievements for the national team, Iordănescu, even if he's currently out of the circuit, has an important say when it comes to references," his former collaborators stated.
Iordănescu and Drăgușin worked together for the senior national team during the Euro 2024 qualifiers, where they topped their group, and then in Germany, reaching the Round of 16 after finishing first in their group.
