Crystal Palace is currently on a nine-game winless streak across all competitions. Last year, they defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final.
"I can't believe it, we never thought we'd be in this position," Macclesfield manager John Rooney, younger brother of former England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, told the BBC. "We played incredibly from the first minute. I think we deserved to win. I couldn't be prouder of the lads. I didn't think something like this was realistic, but there's always a small hope that anything can happen."
Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner didn't hide his disappointment: "I have no explanation for this. In matches like these, you don't need tactics or a coach. You just need to show what you're capable of and have a bit of pride; then you have to deliver a completely different performance. Today, however, we lacked all of that. We deserved to lose."
