VR46 Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio has voiced strong criticism regarding the length of the MotoGP season, stating that 22 rounds are “too much for the body.”
These 22 rounds mean riders line up on the grid a total of 44 times, a significant increase compared to the recent past when there were typically 17-18 races per year. It’s no coincidence that since the introduction of sprint races in 2023, we’ve seen a rise in the number of injured riders. Furthermore, this lack of recovery time between the more condensed races prevents riders from training effectively during the season, further complicating matters for them.
“Too many races. Too many travel days, it’s too much for the body. 44 races, it’s too many. Zero training. We train a lot for one month in January and then we just try to maintain our fitness throughout the season. It’s completely normal to lose at least a little physical form during the season. But that’s what we get paid for, so we have to deal with it,” Di Giannantonio stated.
