Alpine driver Pierre Gasly admitted his surprise that the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers' World Championship will be decided in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi this Sunday.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the race weekend at Yas Marina, the Frenchman stated he had expected one of the McLaren drivers to have secured the title several rounds before the championship's conclusion. Instead, the title fight heads to Abu Dhabi, with Lando Norris holding a 12-point lead over Max Verstappen and a 16-point advantage over his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri going into the season finale.

“I have to say I’m very surprised. I thought McLaren would have won the title maybe four races ago, at least that’s what I thought after the summer break a few months ago. But that’s why we love racing, because you can’t control and predict everything. So let’s see what happens. It should be an exciting finale,” Gasly commented.
