According to international reports, there has been no contact between the parties for months. While Milan is set to make one final attempt, negotiations stalled a year ago after the club offered a contract extension until 2028, which would have increased the player's net salary from €2.8 million to €5 million.

However, Maignan is demanding a significantly higher salary, nearly double Milan's last offer, aware of interest from Chelsea, Juventus, and Bayern Munich. As of January 1st, Maignan is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any team outside of Serie A.
