Wolverhampton's management has hit another roadblock in their urgent search for a successor to Vítor Pereira, who was sacked on Sunday. After it became clear that former Wolves manager Gary O'Neil, initially the favorite for the role, had withdrawn from negotiations, news has now emerged that Erik ten Hag has also rejected the opportunity to take charge of the team, which is firmly rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table. The Dutchman spent two and a half years at Manchester United before being dismissed in October 2024. He then took over Bayer Leverkusen in the summer but was released after just three official matches leading the 'Werkself'.
Wolves had reportedly contacted the Dutchman through intermediaries, but despite being out of a job, he is currently unwilling to take on the risk with the 'Wolves,' who are eight points adrift of safety.
Following these rejections, Rob Edwards has emerged as the new frontrunner for the position. The former team defender led Middlesbrough to second place in the Championship this season, prior to which he managed Luton in the Premier League.
