Andrea Kimi Antonelli enjoyed a highly positive Friday practice ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, securing a second and a third-fastest time. This came despite a minor power unit issue at the start of the second session.

However, Mercedes mechanics swiftly resolved the problem, allowing the Italian to complete his full day's program. At the close of play, Antonelli spoke to the media, stating it was his best Friday in a long time. The young driver also expressed his hope that yesterday's strong pace would carry over into today's qualifying and tomorrow's race.

“It was a good Friday, perhaps the best Friday I’ve had in a long time. I think the first practice was great; the second was a bit trickier as I made some setup changes that improved the car in one way but worsened it in another. We gathered a lot of data from both sessions. “At the start of the second practice, I had a minor engine issue that altered my plan. Everything was a bit rushed, but we still managed to complete our program and get all the laps we needed, which is the most important thing, and they were fast laps. “It would be great to be at the front on Saturday too; our pace looks good. But, of course, Saturday will be a new day. The track will evolve, and it will be important for me to evolve with my driving and with the car,” Antonelli explained.
