Bruno Fernandes has been with Manchester United for five years and nine months, and the 2025-2026 season could mark his final year at Old Trafford. The captain of Erik ten Hag's squad reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia this summer, but by the end of the current season, the 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder could be available for a fee of £57 million (€65 million).
This information was revealed by The Sun tabloid, which also explained why it's unlikely Bruno Fernandes would depart a year before his current contract expires.
The Portuguese international reportedly rejected a financially advantageous transfer to Saudi Arabia (to Al-Hilal or Al-Nassr in the Pro League) in favor of remaining in England. The Times reported that the offer was for a staggering €3.2 million per month, totaling over €38 million annually!
“I feel good here. I still want to achieve my dreams.”
“The midfielder is convinced he can help the ‘Red Devils’ overcome their crisis, but he might leave before the 2026-27 season. Fernandes has a £57 million release clause in his contract, which can only be activated by clubs outside the Premier League,” the cited source states.
English media suggests that a move to Saudi Arabia could be discussed next summer. Bruno Fernandes explained why he didn't accept a transfer this year: “As I’ve always said, I feel good here. I still want to achieve my dreams.”
“But obviously, I cannot speak on behalf of the club. I’ve heard a lot of news. I’ve seen many people saying that I already had an agreement to leave next season. If the club made that deal, I certainly wasn’t involved!”
“I haven’t discussed with anyone. My agent also knows how I work, so if he wants to talk to me, it will be after the World Cup. Because until then, I won’t open any negotiations about my future.” — Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United captain.
Wife Convinced Him Not to Leave: “Have You Achieved Everything You Wanted?”
Bruno Fernandes was keen to explain what convinced him not to leave: “The first question when I spoke to my wife was: ‘Look, we have this offer from Saudi Arabia.’ And obviously, the first thing she told me was: ‘Have you achieved everything you wanted at the club?’”
“Because she knows I haven’t succeeded. And when I talk about how I haven’t fulfilled my objectives at the club, that largely comes from what she told me. Just as I’m not convinced, she’s not sure either. But if I don’t try, it’s clear I won’t succeed.”
