KTM rider Pedro Acosta has been fined 2,000 euros by MotoGP stewards for violating a new championship rule at the end of qualifying in Malaysia earlier today.
Before the start of the Sepang weekend, it was announced that riders would not be permitted to restart their bikes after a crash within the final three minutes of official practice and both phases of qualifying. The intention behind this rule is to minimize the time yellow flags are displayed on track.
However, Acosta disregarded this instruction and returned to the track after his crash at Turn 1 with less than three minutes remaining in the second qualifying session. Consequently, the Spaniard was handed a 2,000 euro fine, though fortunately for him, no further sporting sanctions were imposed.
