Williams drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz have been disqualified from the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying session due to a breach of DRS regulations. This was officially announced by the FIA following the stewards' meeting at Marina Bay.
Albon and Sainz had qualified 12th and 13th respectively today, but during parc fermé inspection, it was discovered that the opening between the adjustable upper element and the lower fixed element of their rear wings exceeded the permitted 85 millimeters.
Immediately after this infringement was detected, experts were unanimous that Albon and Sainz's disqualification was inevitable. Previous precedents – involving Lewis Hamilton in Brazil in 2021 and both Haas cars in Monaco in 2024 – concluded in the same manner: disqualification following such a technical regulation breach.
Williams stated they would not dispute the FIA's measurements of the gaps and openings, nor the accuracy of the results. The team also confirmed that the rear wings on both their cars did not comply with the regulations.
Barring any significant changes to Albon and Sainz's cars, both drivers are expected to start from the back row of the grid tomorrow.
