Terence Crawford will have a clear advantage in the second half of the fight against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, according to his trainer.
Terence Crawford's head trainer, Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre, recently discussed several topics, including the highly anticipated mega-fight against Canelo Alvarez. BoMac stated he isn't concerned about Canelo's supposed physical strength advantage, believing that power won't last into the later rounds where, he predicts, Crawford will impose his will. Here are some excerpts from his interview with The Ring magazine:
McIntyre on their plan to handle Canelo's power:
"(Canelo) ain't the bigger man. I don't give a damn about that power... That power ain't gonna be able to be maintained throughout the whole fight. Watch. And he usually slows down between the sixth and seventh rounds. When you slow down, it's a wrap."
"I've seen him slow down in the later rounds, and I've seen him get outboxed."
On Canelo sparring with 'Boots' Ennis in preparation for the fight:
"I don't give a damn. I don't care about all that bullshit, because that training and those sparring partners, all that don't mean nothing when you get in the f***ing ring. All that goes out the window."
"(Sparring with Boots) don't mean nothing, man... Boots is not Crawford... All that bullshit don't mean nothing. It ain't gonna help him. They're not 'Bud' Crawford, they don't have that mentality."
A number of boxers under Canelo's trainer, Eddy Reynoso, have tested positive for banned substances. Does McIntyre have any concerns about this?
"No, because VADA is involved in this fight... When you say VADA is involved, that means they're testing him – you don't know when. They could be testing him right now as we're doing this interview. So, if something pops up, they're gonna announce it, man."
